Rev. Dr. Lewis D. Knight, Sr. is a native of Suffolk, Va. and the Son of Walter Lee Knight and the late Laurine Virginia Knight. He received his early education in the Suffolk Public School System.
After accepting the call to the Gospel Ministry in 1984, Rev. Knight preached his initial sermon at the Pleasant Union Missionary Baptist Church and soon after enrolled in Virginia Seminary and College where he earned a Certificate in Christian Education. Rev. Knight was ordained in 1987 by Bishop George H. Studivant of the Reform Zion Union Apostolic Churches of America. In 1986, Rev. Knight met and married Mildred Baker and from this union two children (Kristy Lynnell and Lewis Jr.) were born. Rev. Knight had a quest for knowledge so he attended Paul D Camp Community College earning Associate degrees in Business Management and Marketing. In 2003 Rev. Knight earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Management from St. Paul’s College, Lawrenceville, Va. In 2005, he earned a Master of Business Administration from Averett University Danville, Va.
In 2009, Rev. Knight earned his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Norfolk Theological seminary, Norfolk, Va. In all of his educational achievements, Rev. Knight is most thankful for his (BA) Born Again Degree that he received in August 1975 at Pleasant Union Missionary Baptist Church.
Pastor Knight received the call to join the Gilfield Church family in 1994 from the previous pastor the late Rev. Hillman C. Wright and was later appointed by Bishop G.H. Studivant in the Annual Conference. Since joining Gilfield, the church has grown spiritually and physically. A new edifice was constructed in 2005, land next to the church was purchased and given to the church, a Bus Ministry was started and reorganizing of various ministries came into being.
From 1995 - 2004 Rev. Knight was also called to serve the Mercy Seat RZUA Church family.
In December of 2014, Rev. Knight was appointed Pastor of The Union Bethel Church family by Bishop John Ghee.
Rev. Knight is a Gospel preacher who will tell the Old-Age story of Biblical truth in a new light.
